One of the most common questions I get from friends and students is, “How can I learn security?” In this article, I’ll explain three resources I consider essential.
1) The Security+ Study Guide by Darril Gibson and Joe Shelley: Darril Gibson’s books focus primarily on preparing for one of my favorite security certifications (Security+); however, the reason I recommend this resource is because it covers the concepts required to get involved in the security industry.
You can get this book on Amazon for an average of $40 USD. You can download a free sample and browse the first few chapters to see if it catches your attention. It’s definitely my favorite resource and the book I use as a reference in several of the courses I teach.
2) La guía de estudio de CCSK (Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge), este libro el cuál encontrarás en Español y en Inglés de manera gratuita, brinda los conceptos clave para comprender la seguridad en la nube
3) Google Security Course
The Google Security course was officially released in 2023 and is the training I personally recommend to my students. You’ll not only learn the basics of security but also programming concepts and how to use Linux. You can take the course at your own pace; the cost is $49 per month, and how many months you invest depends on you. If you definitely don’t have the $49 or aren’t sure if it’s worth the investment, you can simply watch the free videos on YouTube and take the basic lessons.
