At 85bits we believe that learning doesn’t follow a single starry path, even though each member of this clan has their own ship, their own map and their unique way of crossing the universe of knowledge. What matters is moving, exploring and making things happen.
Like any crew committed to a cause, we share a code of honor, the principles that guide us and chart the common course we choose to follow.
Reaching the goal shouldn’t be the most important thing, but rather enjoying the journey.
We are in a constantly changing field that continuously presents new challenges.
85bits experiments along the way and wants you to be part of this experiment, seeing the new and unexpected as an opportunity.
In two hours, you won’t solve a forensic investigation CSI-style, or by reading a book on Pentesting, you won’t become a hacking wizard.
Beyond starting, consistency and discipline are required, perseverance, and conviction to go from being a Youngling to a Grand Master in security.
We may be the best developers, engineers, hackers, or anything else at 85bits, but we don’t know it all, and problems can require different perspectives.
Whenever necessary, help or ask for help. Don’t try to be an “Infosec Rock Star.”
Sometimes doing things the right way isn’t the fastest or easiest route, but honesty and professionalism with our peers, clients, and ourselves are a priority.
Remember rule 3, it’s more valuable to admit that we don’t know something at the right moment.
“When you talk, you’re just repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.” (Dalai Lama).
We’re convinced that everyone can contribute, so actively listen to those around you and complement your knowledge.
Think outside the box
Ideas can come from any source, in different shapes and colors.
If something in your head screams security, let it out! Share it and allow cooperation to build work that solves a problem and improves our field of action..
“Being a Jedi is not just about power, or lightsabers, or even skill with the Force… it’s about being part of something bigger. I am greater as part of the Jedi Order than I could ever be alone.” (Obi-Wan Kenobi).
Remember, here you don’t “do,” but rather, we all “make” things possible. We’re building a community in security, without forgetting individual achievements, which we celebrate.
